Avicenna Therapeutic Tech, Inc. is developing MIST, a plungerless syringe system that replaces 70-year-old injection technology. Instead of a plunger, a magnetic actuator moves a piston inside a vacuum-sealed cartridge. The drug never touches silicone oil, there are no air bubbles, and medicines can be stored for longer with less reliance on refrigerated shipping.
MIST is designed for liquids, thick formulations and gases, including sensitive biologics and mRNA vaccines. One sealed cartridge replaces both the vial and the syringe, so pharma and biotech partners can cut waste, fill-finish costs and cold-chain spend. Founded in 2026, Avicenna plans to earn from cartridge sales, licensing, actuators and co-development partnerships.
Injectables still rely on 70-year-old syringe technology. Short shelf life, silicone oil, leakage and refrigerated shipping all add cost and risk, and an estimated $35 billion or more is lost globally each year to injectable logistics failures. Avicenna’s MIST system is designed to remove those weak points.
