Sensars is a neuromodulation company developing SENSY, an implantable system designed to restore protective foot sensation in people with diabetic neuropathy. When nerve damage takes away feeling in the foot, pressure and injuries go unnoticed. Ulcers, infections and amputations can follow, and SENSY aims to break that chain.
SENSY pairs smart insoles, which capture pressure and movement under the foot, with an electrode implanted in the nerve that passes that information on, helping patients feel their feet again. The device holds FDA Breakthrough Device Designation, and Sensars is raising a $3.5M seed round to reach its pivotal study.
Diabetic neuropathy takes away protective feeling in the foot, so pressure and injuries go unfelt. Ulcers follow, and some end in amputation. That adds up to an estimated 2.1 million ulcers and 0.5 million amputations a year, and an $80 billion burden. Sensars is developing SENSY to restore that sensation and stop the problem where it starts.
